Frequently asked questions

It all began with a simple idea fueled by a deep passion. As a small business, we pride ourselves on personal attention and dedication to every detail. Our approach is rooted in quality and integrity, ensuring that everything we do reflects our commitment to excellence.

Am I legally required to conduct an audit as a business?

Businesses must ensure all food and drink served is safe. Although not legally required, hiring an external company provides expert guidance, an independent perspective, and helps prioritize necessary actions.

Can engaging a catering consultant contribute to an improved star rating?

Having a catering consultant can boost your star rating, provided you follow their recommendations and act on their audit results.

Is it appropriate to utilize a catering consultant's report during a local authority audit?

Demonstrating that you take food safety seriously can help highlight steps you've taken to address issues. It shows your commitment to improvement and that you have an actionable plan in place. My catering consultant's reports are much more thorough than those from local authorities and provide detailed advice on how to resolve problems.

How long does an audit take, and will I need to close during it?

The audit generally takes two to three hours, depending on the size of the unit. Operations can continue as normal during the audit, as staff will be observed while performing their duties. Following the audit, I will compile a comprehensive report detailing both areas of concern and areas of compliance, supplemented by photographs illustrating specific issues where possible. The report will include recommendations for addressing any concerns identified, suggested timeframes for corrective actions, and an overall score for each section assessed.

Should I notify the staff behand?

Ultimately, the decision is yours, but it's advisable to notify the staff either towards the end of the prior day's shift or about 30 minutes before the audit begins. Let them know that the focus is on enhancing food safety practices and management—not on pointing out faults. The purpose is to support and strengthen the service.

As a manager, is there any preparation required on my part?

Preparing all relevant documentation ahead of time—including staff training records, food safety policies, and at least the last three months of food safety logs—will help ensure a more efficient and effective audit process. It is also advisable to provide any additional information that evidences adherence to food safety standards. Please arrange to be available at the commencement of the audit to discuss your business operations and current workload, and again at the conclusion so that I may present an overview of my findings and highlight any areas requiring immediate attention. Additionally, kindly allocate time for a guided tour of the unit prior to the start of the audit; this can be conducted by a senior member of the catering team.

Will any information be shared with third parties?

No information will be shared with third parties, including local authorities. The report is solely for your business use. I comply with GDPR, and all data is securely stored.
